Less than half of HKers consider home purchase, survey shows

Less than half of Hongkongers are considering a home purchase in the next 12 months, as they are waiting for supportive housing measures in the coming Budget, according to a survey by Hong Kong Property Services.

The results came after the realtor analyzed about 300 questionnaires.

Over 46 percent of the respondents are considering home purchase in the next 12 months, a drop of about 11.4 percentage points compared with the fourth quarter of last year, reflecting the public’s cautiousness before the announcement of the Budget, based on the survey.

Additionally, around 58.4 percent of respondents expect property prices to decline in the next 12 months, up 11.3 percentage points from the previous quarter, reflecting growing short-term pessimism.
